Daily Kos

I teach digital media online for a community college in Seattle, but I live in NM in search of blue skys, red rocks, and green chiles. Photographer, videographer, musician. Builder and fixer of things. Professional putterer. Sort of a Renaissance Bear.

Dirty F'ing Hippies!

Thu Aug 07, 2008 at 10:59:42 AM PDT

GOP Senate candidate Steve Pearce of New Mexico seems to have discovered the ability for time travel, as he has apparently gone back in time to the 60s - or in his case, perhaps never left - and found some compelling reasons to vote for him over his Dem opponent, Tom Udall.

Plus he seems to have the same understanding of the Inter-Tubes as John McCain.

Ben and Jerry's Announces New Flavor (don'tch wish?)

Mon Apr 21, 2008 at 07:45:45 AM PDT

In honor of tomorrow's total sweep of the PA primary by Barack Obama, Ben and Jerry's has announced a new flavor to help carry him into the White House.

They describe it as a "nationwide mixture of colors (and flavors) that combines white vanilla, pieces of black chocolate with swirls of red cherry and yellow graham cracker crust, liberally (and progressively) laced with Yes We Pecans." No conservative flavors here.

Coming to a store near you. Like Steven Colbert, grab a spoon and dig in.

(Credit where credit is due. newmexicobear came up with the picture but Ms. newmexicobear (aka jancw) thought up the cool name.)

Gasp! I'd support a draft

Tue Nov 21, 2006 at 06:46:43 AM PDT

Yes, it's true. I'd support a draft. I think it's only fair. This country gives (most of) us the greatest standard of living, fairly clean air, almost drinkable water, National Parks, one or two remaining freedoms from the B of R's, and a host of other benefits, not to mention Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream. Health care? Not yet, but we're workin' on it. But still...

Why, oh hand wringing Americans, should we not be asked to give something back in return for these wonderful benefits? Why not a...a...a...d-d-d-ddraft? There. I said it.

Diary Thoughts: Then I'll Shut Up

Fri Nov 11, 2005 at 10:07:02 AM PDT

Having just waded thru the diaries, especially the WTC Collapse postings de jour, I have a suggestion for Kos and the programers of the site. Several of the replies to the two (so far) WTC theory postings suggested "peer reviews" to assure accuracy and appropriateness. Well, the "Recommend" button does that, on Kos we are all "peers" in our own weird and diverse ways, but does it do it well enough? And the ratings by Kos members do that, but do they allow all the good stuff to be seen when the turnover is so fast?

This brought up a thought that I've had for quite a while and that I continue downstream.

Ewwww...I Went to High School with Rove! (w/Picture!)

Sun Oct 30, 2005 at 08:12:24 AM PDT

Suddenly, I feel dirty.

I think I need some Lysol Spray, or maybe a male version of one of those vaginal sprays for when you feel Not Quite Fresh. Why?

I went to high school with Karl Rove.

More germs downstream. But make sure you wash your hands afterwards...

Urgent Business Proposal (Confidential)

Wed Oct 19, 2005 at 02:52:39 PM PDT

Wow, this sure sounds as if it could be a good deal, but I'm a little hesitant to give out my banking information. But I could sure use the money ($17 million plus another $8 million for taxes!). Maybe you can tell me what you think.

It says:

URGENT BUSINESS PROPOSAL

Perhaps this letter will come as a surprise to you for we have never met.

First, may I solicit your confidence in this transaction, which by virtue of its nature is utterly confidential and "top secret". I am however aware that a transaction of this magnitude will make anyone apprehensive, but I am assuring you that all will be well at the end of the day. My contact with you is based on the urgency and beliefs that you will not betray the trust bestowed on you for the actualization of the deal.

My name is Tom Delay...

Hotel Kosifornia

With special thanks to David Boyle and the earlier diary on where a lot of the KosKrowd has gone.

I couldn't make it to DC today so I had to do something else creative. It just sorta came out, non-stop.

Target Practice?

Fri Sep 16, 2005 at 09:12:23 PM PDT

A diary below by Silentspring, which may have vanished by now, forced me to post this one.

I received this earlier in the week but I have held off posting it. I probably shouldn't have, but I did. Maybe I was ashamed to be in the same country. Maybe I couldn't believe it. But I held off posting it. Now I wish I hadn't.

My neighbor sent out a "Bush Joke" to some folks and I was on the TO list. One recipient sent it on to a second layer of recipients. And someone winger in the second echelon did a "Reply All" with his own thoughs and comments which made it back to me. In defense, my neighbor "has no idea who this is or where they live." This is good, because my neighbors are nice folks.

Wouldn't It Be Nice (with lyrics!)

Tue Sep 13, 2005 at 04:33:20 PM PDT

After two weeks of rage, depression, and downright YUCK, it's time to start laughing (and planning our escape). Not only that, but writing new song lyrics to classic rock sure beats trying to work when you're in a bad mood. And not only THAT by my wife says, "If you don't send that in to dKos, I will." (This usually means if I don't I end up sleeping on the couch).

It started with a message from her this afternoon with, "Here...Photoshop This," a copy of Nixon's resignation letter. (We're a modern couple. We don't talk, we just send email back and forth).  When I was done, this was the result:

When I had finished, I was feeling much better and found myself humming...and humming...and humming...

More humming around the bend::

My LTE: Personalize it and use if you wish

Sat Sep 03, 2005 at 10:14:13 PM PDT

Call it therapy: I've had to say it. I've had to write it. Pieces of it come from Kos and pieces come from elsewhere. I wanted to find a way to present some of the backstory of the Bush Administration to the folks here who only watch Fox News.

This is going to my local mostly moderate weekly, The Independent, out of tiny Edgewood, New Mexico, and perhaps to the solidly very conservative Albuquerque Journal. But I'm offering it here for both critique and comment, as well as offering it to you if you want to spin this to your own local paper, with your own local landmarks and neighborhoods.

It's yours. Take and use it if you wish. But here it is.

More songs for the new revolution

Tue Aug 09, 2005 at 09:19:37 PM PDT

Up in the recommendeds there has been a spirited songfest of new lyrics to "Deep in the Heart of Texas" and "Yellow Rose of Texas". And it's been some great stuff, too.

But like any revolution, we need more songs: Songs to sing in the trenches; songs to sing in jail; songs to sing when we're down and out. So...

Here's my opening salvo of tunage, with the hope that the rest you (who have shown SO much talent in the "Texas" thead will add to the upcoming "DKos' Greatest Hits" (or some such title).

BTW, this is my first diary (except for an item I wrote that my wife posted for me a while back) so be kind.
